Sedation Dentistry - For a More Comfortable and Relaxed Dental Experience
If you're reluctant to visit your dentist out of fear or anxiety, there is help. Dr. Joseph Thompson offers sedation dentistry in Greeley to provide a more relaxed and comfortable dental experience. Depending on your level of anxiety and the type of dental procedure you need, Dr. Thompson will prepare a custom treatment plan to improve your oral health and to best care for your apprehension regarding dental visits.
Our sedation methods include:
For patients who experience mild levels of anxiety, the ideal solution is nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas. With this method you'll be awake throughout your dental procedure, but will be free of anxiety and discomfort.
When the procedure is complete, Dr. Thompson will administer pure oxygen to flush out the nitrous oxide. You will leave the office without drowsy side effects and able to drive yourself home.
Oral Conscious Sedation
Severe dental anxiety or more complex procedures may require a deeper level of sedation than nitrous oxide can provide. Thompson Advanced Dental offers oral conscious sedation for those with greater needs, such as patients undergoing dental implant placement or full-mouth reconstruction. Complex procedures can be completed more quickly when a patient is sedated and fully relaxed.
Dr. Thompson will prescribe a pill to be taken one hour prior to your appointment time. This level of sedation is almost like sleeping, in that patients don't remember undergoing dental procedures afterward.
Due to the level of sedation this method involves, Dr. Thompson does require that you have someone available to drive you to and from your dental appointment. The effects of the sedation can last up to four to six hours. It's advised that you spend the remainder of the day resting after your procedure.
